“DE-NOISING” AUTOMOBILE TRANSMISSION SOUND DATA ACQUIRED in a HIGH BACKGROUND NOISE ENVIRONMENT

Accurately identifying the sound output of a product is difficult in a normal factory/operating environment with high background noise [1] without the use of a costly enclosure or without moving the product to an anechoic chamber for testing. A new methodology is proposed to sanitize the acquired acoustic data and remove background noise. SenSound’s SenQC software [2] eliminates the need for an enclosure or the use of an anechoic chamber for quality control testing. SenQC is able to de-noise the signal in order to provide an accurate representation of the overall sound output of the object being tested and to enable non-contact defect detection by enabling the identification of specific defect signature. This enables us to a develop a software based quality control system developed for manufacturers that will allow 'on-the-line' testing of products for noise and defects using microphones.
